‘TRL’ is back.
Nothing screams mid 2000s quite like MTV’s hit show, TRL. Hosted by Carson Daley, TRL existed when MTV still placed an emphasis on music, as it counted down the top-10 most popular music videos in the country. While it hasn’t been on the air since November ’08, MTV is brining back the once culturally relevant show in stunning fashion.
In order to update TRL to today’s music standards, it’s important to enlist some of today’s hottest talent. And that’s exactly what they did.
Migos were the inaugural reboot guests. Considering that they’re one of music’s most popular acts, and arguably the most influential in hip hop, they were a savvy selection to reintroduce the show, and set the tone that the new TRL is chasing: relevance. Migos performed their hit single, “Too Hotty”, in New York’s bustling Times Square in front of an elated audience.
The jury is still out on whether or not TRL will recapture its former glory. However, if this performance is any indication, they’re well on their way.
