Childish Gambino Hints at New Music

Donald Glover is a transcendent talent. Typically, ambitious individuals will risk everything for a taste of the highly-touted glamorous life surrounding celebrity culture—in one specific vocation. Rarely does an individual’s talents translate to divergent fields, resulting in ubiquitous success and admiration. Donald Glover exists at fame’s margin. He is an outlier.

We’ve grown to love multiple versions of Glover: as the nerdy, humorous internet upstart from Derrick Comedy to the RIAA-certified Gold musician, thanks to his most recent project, “Awaken, My Love!”. His expansive abilities—writing, acting, singing…everything—manifested on the R&B/Funk album by demonstrating that he is more than just a rapper, contrary to early career self-declarations. But as his film career continues to skyrocket, music fans are growing more accustom with Donald Glover, and losing touch with Childish Gambino. Hopefully not for long though, however.

In a recent BBC Radio interview, the industry stalwart hinted that Donald Glover might, once again, differ to his alter-ego, Childish Gambino. When asked by BBC interviewer Clara Amfo about any upcoming music, he responded with, “Absolutely. I’ve been working on that here [London]. You guys have been very instrumental in my music, so I’m very happy about that. London has been very inspirational.”

Donald Glover has shape-shifted his way through his musical rise, offering different shades of himself with each successive album release. While we don’t know which Gambino version will materialize this time around, we can breathe easy know that new music is within earshot.
