After breaking his painful musical absence recently with the songs “Heartless” and “Blinding Light,” Abel’s returned yet again with the official video for the former track.
Caught in a hallucinogenic world, the “Heartless” video is imbued with the conflated fingerprints of Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas and the avant garde cult-favorite, Enter The Void. While the aesthetic hinges on vibrant lights and effervescent graphics, much like the latter film, the soul of the Anton Tammi-directed visual draws conceptual parallels with Fear & Loathing, as Weeknd and Metro Boomin (who produced the track) stumble in a drug-induced stupor throughout the strip.
With a cigarette perpetually dangling from his mouth, The Weeknd offers a solid Johnny Depp impersonation, too.
