Featuring Nas, JAY-Z, Pharrell, Fivio Foreign, and more.
Despite this being one of the most peculiar years, the constant of summer fading quickly into the horizon has remained — after all, it’s already August 21st. But even though the fall might be around the corner, there’s still plenty of time to soak in the warm weather. And what better way to enjoy the last month of summer than with a fire playlist?
DJ Forever Cold has returned once again to apply his expert filter to this week’s myriad of releases to present to you the 8/21 Forever Cold❄️ playlist.
This week’s list is headlined by an eclectic mix of starpower and hungry newcomers, including: Nas, Pharrell & JAY-Z, Fivio Foreign, Mulatto, and 42 Dugg.
Kicking things off, the iconic Nas has come through with his 13th studio album, King’s Disease. The successor to 2018’s Nasir, Nas’ latest endeavor proves how hip-hop isn’t exclusively a young man’s game. His pengame has somehow remained as deft as ever, perhaps even improving given his enhanced life perspective. King’s Disease is executively-produced by Hit-Boy, and features Lil Durk, Big Sean, Don Toliver, Cormega, and plenty more. The tracks “Replace Me” featuring Big Sean and Don Toliver and “Til The War Is Won” featuring Lil Durk have been added to this week’s list.
Fueling the rumors buzzing around the internet that he always drops when Nas does, JAY-Z has also come through with a song today by linking with Pharrell on “Entrepreneur.” The funky new single extracts both featured artists’ strengths, as the Neptunes vibey production evokes mystifying vocals from Pharrell and superior writtens from HOV.
Staying in New York, one of the faces of Brooklyn’s Drill movement, Fivio Foreign, has delivered his new single, “13 Going On 30.” Fivio’s latest track is an introspective one that finds the 30-year-old rapper reflecting on how he’s improved throughout his life, and how he’s grateful for this growth.
Heading down south, Atlanta’s quickly-rising Mulatto has come through with her debut studio album, Queen Of Da Souf. The 13-track LP was marketed by the singles “Muwop” and “Bitch From The South” (Remix), and features fellow ATL talent, including Gucci Mane, 42 Dugg, and 21 Savage. Her track with 21, “Pull Up,” has made this week’s list.
Speaking of 42 Dugg, he’s enjoyed a prolific year, having dropped his Young & Turnt Vol. 2 mixtape and its deluxe counterpart earlier this year, and earning features on Lil Baby’s My Turn LP. Today, he’s delivered a somber single, “Free Merey,” that finds the young talent longing for the liberation of his friend from prison.
Other artists to make this week’s list include: Chief Keef & Mike WiLL, Internet Money, Bodega Bamz, Metro Marrs, AG Club, among others.
